The Scottish-British celebrity chef that brought Hell’s Kitchen, Kitchen Nightmares, and the renowned MasterChef among others gave new meaning to life in the kitchen. Over the years, he has been the face of many cooking reality shows that has shown the world what it takes for ordinary people to become master chefs too. What set Ramsay apart from other famous chefs is that his fiery temper is a force to reckon with. Aspiring chefs turn pale every time he shouts, curses, and loses his temper in the kitchen.

While his personality isn’t exactly the nicest, people aspire to get complimented by him when it comes to their cooking. His restaurants are sought after in the UK and now he has set his eyes to expand on American soil. Ramsay is set to open six new restaurants in the US although we are not yet privy to the details. For sure, Americans are eager to have a taste of his culinary masterpieces, a welcome change from the usual fast food staples in the country.

Ubiquitous curse word connoisseur Gordon Ramsay is planning to open six more restaurants in America, including venues in New Orleans and Baltimore, where he currently has no footprint.

Although Ramsay’s camp has not released any specifics about the Baltimore or New Orleans projects, the Financial Times points out that his group operates four hit venues in Las Vegas and Atlantic City casino/resorts, so these new restaurants will likely be casual establishments along the lines of Gordon Ramsay BurGR or Gordon Ramsay Pub & Grill, and they might also be connected to gaming hubs. One of the shouty chef’s new Vegas projects is a restaurant inspired by his long-running Fox show Hell’s Kitchen.

The Gordon Ramsay Group is bouncing back after a rough patch, with reported sales up three percent over the last year. Part of the company’s success can be attributed to the fact that Ramsay and Co. have expanded their portfolio to include more affordable establishments, many of which are run through low-risk licensing deals.

He got his eyes set in Baltimore and New Orleans, and even in Vegas. These restaurants will surely be a hit given that he is not just popular in Europe but in the whole world too. Expanding his brand in America may also help boost sales that weren’t so good over the past few months.

From his multiple hit television shows to his Twitter feuds to dolling out expert cooking advice, Gordon Ramsay is literally everywhere right now — except dominating the U.S. restaurant scene. Up until now, unless you lived in or visited California, Nevada, New Jersey, or New York, you were out of luck when it came to dining á la chef Ramsay stateside. But all of that is about to change, because Ramsay is reportedly opening up six (!) new restaurantsin the U.S.

The isn't a ton of information about what's actually to come yet, but it's confirmed that there will be six new hot spots, with locations in both Baltimore and New Orleans (which would be his first venues in these cities). It's speculated that the restaurants will likely be casual chains, or even connected to gaming hubs, like his popular venues in Las Vegas, Gordon Ramsay BurGR, and Gordon Ramsay Pub & Grill.

Flooding In America Is At An All Time High

The world is quickly heating up. Greenhouse gasses are trapped in the atmosphere, thereby making the world hotter than it was before. Climate change and global warming are often used interchangeably nowadays and for good reason. Both are responsible for many of the worst disasters we have faced as of late and probably of much more in the years to come, agrees Dave Davidson from Northern Attitude. However, global warming actually precedes the other. The accumulation of greenhouse gasses results to the changing of climate patterns. It is the reason why the natural calamities we experience nowadays are far stronger and unpredictable than in the past.

Rising global temperatures consequently cause the sea level to rise because ice caps are melting faster than it did over the past century. It also resulted in an increase in rainfall and flooding in various parts of the globe. Like any other nations experiencing the wrath of Mother Nature, America has experienced its fair share of catastrophes over the years. The country had more floods last year than any given year on record.

2016 really was the year of the flood in the U.S.: In total, 19 separate floods swamped the nation last year, the most in one single year since records began in 1980.

This is according to an analysis by Munich Re, a global reinsurance firm.

The worst flood was in August in Louisiana. At least 13 people were killed and roughly 60,000 buildings were destroyed. The disaster cost $10 billion, Munich Re reported, which noted it was the worst natural catastrophe in the U.S. since Hurricane Sandy in 2012.

"We had a lot of severe flash floods in heavily developed areas," said meteorologist Mark Bove of Munich Re.

Other major flood disasters in 2016 included those in West Virginia in June, Houston in April and Maryland in July. "We did get very unlucky" last year, Bove said.

The 19 floods in 2016 were an increase from 2015, when there were 15.

We can no longer just shrug off our shoulders and ignore global warming. The quality of our lives will forever be connected to the climate. Severe flooding can result in loss of human lives, deterioration of health, damage to property, loss of livestock, and destruction of crops that is worth millions to billions of dollars just all wiped out.

Days of heavy rain have swamped homes and businesses in North Carolina and Tuesday brought more rain into the forecast.

The National Weather Service issued a flood warning until 11:30 p.m. for Raleigh, the state capital, and surrounding counties. It warned that many roads are still closed and said the waters will be slow to recede.

CNN meteorologist Pedram Javaheri said 5-7 inches have fallen in parts of the state since Monday.

Nick Voss said he had about 30 inches of water in his garage on Tuesday morning. His house is elevated to meet flood standards, so his living area is safe and dry. He had also moved his vehicles to higher ground before the flooding.

Flooding can be catastrophic especially with sudden and powerful flash floods that happen with such short notice that can destroy homes, structures, bridges and vehicles. Your home is no longer your safe haven as it can not always protect you from the force of these raging waters. Your health is also at higher risk because floods can contaminate bodies of water with chemicals and other toxic substances that are spread by the water’s current.

You can easily become homeless as well. The Louisiana flood during the onslaught of Hurricane Katrina in 2005 is the worst experienced in America followed by Hurricane Sandy otherwise known as “Superstorm Sandy” that hit the East Coast in 2012 and the second costliest storm in the history of America. Those two hurricanes brought with it severe flooding that wiped out cities and communities and left thousands of families homeless and completely dependent on federal assistance.

All Americans can see the trend quite clearly now. Calamities are getting worse and destruction is costlier than ever. 19 major floods hit the United States in 2016 alone. Will the number go up this year when the Trump government decided to cut back funding on various government agencies he considers not that relevant in rebuilding the greatness of his America? Asian Monsoons Are Becoming More Intense

Asia is the biggest continent on the planet and is home to numerous nations that are geographically, culturally, linguistically and physically diverse. This continent also witnesses plenty of catastrophes, both natural and manmade, year in and year out. Monsoons are especially common in the South of Asia where countries are made of island nations. Storms form all year round in the Pacific and they have been a part of the lives of most Asians while droughts can be seasonal challenges too.

Monsoons are actually seasonal wind reversals along with precipitation changes in various parts of the world. However, it commonly refers to seasonal changes in the atmosphere that are closely linked to the warming of the land and of the sea nowadays or even seasonal changing patterns during the rainy season. South Asian Climate Outlook Forum (SASCOF) has forecast a normal monsoon for South Asia including India. It indicates neutral ENSO conditions are likely to continue through middle of the monsoon season, while weak El Niño conditions are likely to develop in the second half of this year.

"The outlook suggests that during the 2017 southwest monsoon season (June – September), normal rainfall is most likely over much ofSouth Asia. A weak El Niño is expected this 2017. It’s better to be privy to these details now before making any plans later in the year especially if it is for a vacation in an Asian nation that is heavily affected by monsoons. The state’s high court has ordered that loan waivers be extended to more farmers. Elsewhere, the new Uttar Pradesh government has announced a large-scale loan waiver for farmers.

By March 30, the water available in India’s 91 largest reservoirs monitored by the Central Water Commission was already down to 52.632 billion cubic metres, 33 per cent of the total storage capacity of these reservoirs.

The water bureaucracy has not pressed the panic button yet because this is marginally above the average availability in these reservoirs over the last 10 years.

Tornado Alley In The US

The US is a big nation. It is not only made up of 50 states and a handful of territories but it is likewise a big chunk of land mass that experiences all four seasons each year. On the average, roughly 1,200 tornadoes hit the US annually especially in the East Rocky Mountains as well as in the Midwest, the Great Plains, the South of the US and the Mississippi Valley. There were no immediate reports of deaths after four tornadoes hit the region, leaving 10,000 homes without power and prompting Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards to declare a state of emergency. Dozens of homes, cars and businesses were damaged.

The worst of the devastation occurred in New Orleans East, where a tornado ripped buildings from foundations and left power lines dangerously strewn across roadways. James Thomas rode out the storm there in his bathroom after grabbing his motorcycle helmet for extra protection. After the danger passed, he emerged to find his house narrowly escaped the path of the tornado, which left his neighborhood encased in damage.

"It's bad," he told the Associated Press. "I've never seen it this bad."

Twisters are a sight to behold. Many are captivated by tornadoes that some even make it a hobby to pursue them. However, let us not forget how destructive its nature is and lives are lost and properties are decimated in just one strike. A series of outbreaks that began in January has propelled the preliminary 2017 U.S. tornado count to its highest level for mid-March in nearly a decade.

Two dozen people have lost their lives from tornadoes so far this year, and the waves of severe weather have contributed to economic losses of more than $2 billion.

The preliminary tornado count for the year was 309 through March 20, according to Dr. Greg Forbes, severe weather expert at The Weather Channel. That is the largest number of tornadoes to this point in the season since March 2008, which had 327 tornadoes by that date. 

January's tornado count of 133 was more than triple the 20-year average of 40 for that month. A preliminary count of 112 tornadoes have touched down so far in March, and that already exceeds the entire month's 20-year average of 76.

China: Air Pollution At Its Worst

Air is crucial to life. We will die without air. That’s quite obvious. However, we may also gradually die from overexposure to air pollution. Our body needs clean air now more than ever especially that rapid urbanization has left most cities polluted and smog-filled. Air pollution is actually our fault. We were too consumed by our fascination with technology that we forgot to take into consideration its impact to the environment, especially to the very air we breathe.

If there is any other place on the planet that is known for extreme air pollution issues, it would have to be China. The most populous country in the planet, many Chinese are facing each day in a world full-of smog and polluted air. While we may not entirely get rid of air pollutants, they should be at an acceptable level so as not to pose health risks to everyone. It is why it’s not uncommon to see individuals walking the streets wearing face masks because it is virtually impossible to breathe clean air in most major Chinese cities.

The central government declared war on pollution in China four years ago, but progress has been limited.

The environment ministry said last week it found that thousands of polluters had faked emissions data or resisted checks made by inspectors from mid February to mid March.

The three-month average reading in the 28 cities of PM 2.5, the small particles in smog deemed most harmful to health, was 103 micrograms per cubic metres, the ministry said. This was a rise of 12 per cent from a year earlier.

Readings over 101 are ranked as unhealthy for sensitive groups and members of the public are urged to limit the amount of time they exercise outdoors.

Levels of PM10, slightly larger particles of pollutants, averaged 160 micrograms per cubic metres in the cities from January to March, unchanged from the same period last year, the ministry said.

The ministry said in a separate notice published on Wednesday that it would send 5,600 inspectors on a year-long investigation into the sources of air pollution in major northern cities, the largest such campaign ever undertaken nationally.

If California is the most polluted state in the United States, China earned the title in the whole world. And millions of Chinese live in this unhealthy environment despite the government’s effort to address air pollution issues. The Chinese government is intensifying their efforts but the threat remains the same and is probably worsened by other equally controversial topics like climate change and global warming.

China experiences one of the highest rates of air pollution in the world. The quality of air remains poor in its cities and industrial towns for most part of the year. A new research published in journal Science Advances has said that part of the reason for this is changing weather.

The paper studied the climatic conditions and air pollution in China and found that poor air quality continued due to extremely poor ventilation conditions, which were caused by Arctic sea ice loss and the weather changes that followed.

Scientists studied China’s climatic condition from January 2013 using satellite data and visibility measures. As per the paper, January 2013 saw unprecedented large-scale haze that continued for almost an entire month. During this so-called “airpocalypse” period, close to 70 per cent of the 74 major cities exceeded the daily PM2.5 ambient air quality standard of China.

The researchers also analysed sea ice, snowfall and large-scale weather patterns. They found a connection between stagnant air conditions and Arctic sea ice concentration, snow cover in Eurasia,   El Niño/Southern Oscillation, and others. Climate change plays a role in changes in these conditions, for instance, sea ice concentration is being depleted due to increased warming. They created atmospheric models to study how those factors changed large-scale circulation patterns and pollution over eastern China.

They are hoping the measures they are currently taking will offer relief, especially that even the aviation industry suffers as poor visibility is always a challenge for all airlines flying in and out of China. The health of all the Chinese will deteriorate if this air pollution problem persists, so we are hoping everyone is doing their part in addressing this issue because the government alone can’t solve this mammoth of a problem by itself.
